„The NY Times”, remdamasis Cornellio universiteto tyrėju atliktu darbu, rašo, kad tradicinės žiniasklaidos atstovai, naujienų tinklalapiai, greičiau paskelbia naują informaciją nei tai padaro tinklaraščių autoriai.
Siekdami išsiaiškinti naujienų plitimą internete tyrėjai sekė per 90 mln. straipsnių bei tinklaraščių įrašų, kurie buvo skelbti 2008 m. rugpjūčio - spalio mėnesiais. Iš viso tyrimo vykdytojai stebėjo 1,6 mln. tinklalapių ir tinklaraščių.
Galutiniai tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad tinklaraščiai nuo tradicinių tinklalapių atsilieka vidutiniškai 2,5 val. Tai reiškia, kad nauja informacija tinklaraščiuose pasirodo pustrečios valandos vėliau nei įprastuose naujienų interneto puslapiuose.
Tyrimas taip pat atskleidė, kad didžioji dalis naujienų tinklarščiuose būna „pasiskolinta” iš tradicinių tinklalapių. Į pastaruosius iš internetinių dienoraščių atkeliauja vos 3,5 proc. visų publikuojamų tekstų.

Su tokiais tyrimo rezultatais galima sutikti, tačiau tik iš dalies. Juk tinklaraščiai, bent jau didžioji jų dalis, nepretenduoja į pačių naujausių žinių skelbėjo vietą. Jie daugiau primena stebėtojus, komentatorius ir vertintojus. O klausantis ką sako ekspertai, galima sakyti, kad tinklaraščiai apskritai turėtų būti orientuoti į nedidelę konkrečią žmonių grupę. Kitokiu atveju tinklaraščio kūrėjui bus labai sunku sulaukti pasisekimo ir didelio skaitytojų dėmesio.

Manau, kad tinklaraščius ir tradicinius tinklalapius nuolat lygina todėl, kad nors ir dirbdami skirtingais metodais, tačiau jie pasiekia panašius rezultatus - informuoja auditoriją, pateikia jai aktualią informaciją. Be to, pastaruoju metu, jau ir dalinasi tuos pačius reklamai skiriamus įmonių pinigus. Bet čia jau reiktų kalbėti apie skirtingus tinklaraščių tipus: profesionalius ir mėgėjiškus.
